Music tuition sign-up

Music is a very important part of school life. Our community is enriched by the singing and music that reverberates through the corridors.

All the children have regular academic music lessons as part of the curriculum and sing in their year group choir. However, to enhance further their music education, they are also encouraged to play an instrument or take singing lessons. We are fortunate to enjoy the support of an excellent group of visiting music teachers who provide tuition in numerous instruments. We would generally recommend that children do not begin music tuition until Year 1, by which time they have fully settled into the routine of school life. Approximately 78% of the pupils in the Prep School learn an instrument and we encourage all pupils to consider such a wonderful opportunity.

If you wish to sign your child up for music tuition, please complete the form below and we'll respond as soon as possible.

Tuition for one term usually consists of 10 lessons. Your child may receive more than 10 lessons in one term and less in another making an average of 30 lessons per year. The cost of each lesson is £25.00. Where shared lessons (two pupils) are appropriate, the cost will be £12.50.

The cost of music lessons and sundries are charged in arrears. There is no charge for hiring an instrument during the first term of lessons. The hire rate is £25.00 thereafter per term. Whilst in your possession, please make sure it is covered under your own household insurance. It is expected that after hiring an instrument for two terms, the pupil will purchase his or her own instrument.

The music timetable is arranged so that Instrumental/Singing lessons take place during the normal school day and are on a rota to ensure limited disruption to their learning.

If your child misses a lesson through their own absence, you will be charged for that lesson. However, if your child misses a lesson because of a school activity then the teacher will endeavour to rearrange this at another time. If your child misses a lesson through the teacher’s absence, then you will not be charged and we will endeavour to re-arrange the tuition.

Half a term’s notice is required for the cessation of lessons, otherwise a term’s fees will be payable in lieu. This notice should be given in writing to the Director of Music.
